I think you have a great chance, and you may want to apply to Duke or Emory. You can do better, but if that's what you want do it! Happy New Year!

I'll be a junior in high school this upcoming year, and UNC is an excellent school i'm really interested in going for college. I would like to study magazine journalism/editing and spanish. For anyone that currently attends Chapel hill, could you give me a few pointers on what they look for to receive admission? Is there anything you would have done differently before going to this college? And also I would appreciate any other additional info about the college (i.e. parking for freshman, etc). Thanks! here is where I am right now.
- Drill team (dance) captain 2 years
- Photography club officer 2 years
- Track, 4 years
- Spanish & ski club
- 3.75 GPA
I have a lot of extracirriculars, so what should I improve on this upcoming year (aside from my gpa.. which isnt that great)? Any advice on how to stay on track? thanksss :]
the problem is you didn't say if you are a NC resident because that matters A LOT for UNC chapel hill. If you are an NC resident I'd say you have a great shot (assuming you've taken some APs and honors). If you don't live in NC, probably not. Heck, a lot of out-of-state applicants to UNC have gotten into Northwestern but not UNC.

looking towards a job in business, like in a large corporations. if this is not asking for too much provide personal experiences with applying for colleges and acceptances THANKS!
If you are going to go into buisness then it really doesn't matter where you go. Look at it this way; do you plan on attending college for 2 yrs, 4 yrs, or more? Are you going to grad school? If you plan on going to school for more than 4yrs, and plan on attending a grad school so you can specialize and enhance the skills you need for the business world. Undergrad school or even your local community college is just a spring board. It is really irrelevant where you go unless you attend the top of the top, la crème de la crème, chances are you have slim chances of getting into most of that sort of college out of high school without a 5.0 GPA and 1600 on SAT. Kids have been denied acceptance to Harvard with perfect SAT scores, the college playing field is primarily political, if your parents went to a college then apply there first, you might get some perks from it, and you might not. Over all though, undergrad schools just cover the basics and help set you in the right direction for Grad school. Go where you feel at home; go where you can graduate without being in debt up to your eye balls. Look at colleges that are a good distance, with the type of student body you want. If you participate in sports or after school activities and improve your GPA to off-set that 2.75 then you should be able to get into a decent school with scholarship. Don't concern yourself with the best rated school, focus on the school that's right for you, the one that fits your life style best and makes you happy. What's the point in going to college if you're going to be miserable the whole time, that's why people transfer to other schools. Out of that whole list I only applied to one and once I got there just to visit I hated it, it didn't even feel like a college to me. Regardless of what others may say, your state university is more than adequate for a business major, you don't need to stress. Everything will fall into place so just look at the colleges that seem best to you; these lists are not perfect and are based on certain criteria which may not be important to you at all. If you really want to get into NYU then you need to be active and do your best to get their attention. Get into AP courses and Dual Enrollment to improve your chances and raise your GPA. And visit all the schools you apply to, visit their websites and contact your admissions officer. Don't look at these lists they won't help you, they'll just stress you. Enjoy the application process and focus on your ultimate goals first then find out how to get there.

I have a 3.9998 unweighted GPA, weighted around 4.8-4.9. I am a resident of NC. I have gotten all A's so far and I am a junior in High School. I am also in a lot of clubs: Math, Beta, Spanish, A.W.S.U.M., J.E.T.S., TRAIL, and Habitat for Humanity. I took the SAT as a sophomore and I got around a 1610 (which is pretty low). I am the representative for my High School for the National Student Leadership Conference and other national organizations. I have also done a lot of community work. I'll have about 6 or 7 AP classes when I graduate. Chapel Hill has a great medical program and is the #1 college on my list.
You sound like a really strong candidate. Yes your SAT score is low, but I'm assuming you're going to take it again before you apply. Take it at the end of your junior year, or the beginning of your senior year. Make sure to study. Either take a course or get a book and do as many practice tests as you can, then review them.
Without a strong SAT score, you're a good candidate because your GPA is excellent and your involvement is impressive. With a strong SAT score, you are a shoo-in.
My other advice would be to focus on leadership. Try to get an office with in at least one club, set a goal, and be strategic about meeting it. You can write about this in your college essay because colleges like to see goal driven people and they really want to know what you accomplished since anyone can fluff up their application with membership in many clubs. Leadership is more impressive.

I'm a junior in high school, on track with all of the college prep courses, about a 3.2 GPA, 27 ACT, 1800 SAT, and African American (However I'm not dissadvantaged at all.) Also, I am 90% deaf in one ear, but I've been able to make it through the public school system perfectly fine. I really want to go to UNC-Chapel Hill, but I think my best bet would be UW-Madison (I'm from Wisconsin.) Since I'm applying to some pretty selective colleges, I was just wondering if talking about my hearing loss and how I've had to perservere around it would be beneficial to my college application? I know that I havn't really had any problems due to my hearing loss, but do you think selective colleges will be more interested in me if I bring it up in my application?
I was always told that you should talk about adversities that you had to overcome, so I think you should briefly talk about how it affected you and also how you overcame the challenge. I didn't get into UCB but I did get into UC Davis (both in CA)
