I feel so discouraged lately.
I am a freshman at a community college. Before, I felt so strong and confident to [try to] top schools such as Yale, Columbia, Duke, UPenn…and some others except UCBerkeley, UCLA, and USC.
But now I feel hopeless. no strength to struggle because I don't believe myself.
Is it too hard to get accepted into top schools?
Do you know anyone who transfered from a junior college to Ivy Leagues Schools?
I was a valedictorian in HS so my rank was 1 out of 857. I have done 340 hours comm service. I won 2 scholarships from my HS and 4 private scholarships. I don't need to list my awards because I won many awards, and those are just from my academic and community service.
I could speak four languages, and my weaknesses are: don't play music and don't play sport.
My elder bro graduated from UCSD, two sisters are at UC Berkely, a very close sister graduated at UCLA, a close aunt graduted at UCI. These are the reasons I don't want to go to UC because my family all have gone to UC.
I just want to make a difference and attempt for school that has a better name.
Why are you discouraged?
You know, everyone at some point in college get discouraged. But, if you stay in school no matter how discouraged you are, you will be glad to yourself later on. Education is so necessary in our lives. It's not about the diploma or certificate. It's about what you learn and how you apply those skills in real life.
As for the elite schools, they are quite competitive, expensive, and hard to get into. These elite schools are the place for future leaders and successful people.
This does not mean other public schools such as your community college is for losers. No. It is not about that. It is about what and how much YOU learn and pull out from college experience. Community colleges or regular 4 years colleges may not be as prestigious as those elite schools. But that does not mean it does not educate and produce future leaders and successful people. Many leaders like state legislators and successful local business owners were educated in regular colleges.
I will not worry so much about getting into those elite schools. I will put more effort on learning things than worrying about getting into prestigious school.
As for your little problem, I say do not discouraged. There is so much to learn and once you get used to learn, it gets much better and better. Just stick with the school. Nothing is better.
You will know what I am talking about after 4,5 years if you stay in school.

You do not have to go to school in NYC to work in the magazine industry. I go to Florida and my friend worked as an intern in Marie Claire there this past summer.
If you do not have good grades, then the good schools in NYC are out the question. Sorry to be so blunt.
There are 110 colleges in New York City! So there are plenty to choose from.
If you really want to live in NYC and are able to afford the high cost of living look at this website for starters.

Both of these universities are at the top of my list and are renowned for their fantastic research programs (and academics overall), but I was wondering if one can be declared better in preparing their students for medical school. I'm very interested in the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, and it's my dream to practice medicine in NYC, so I was wondering if this would make Columbia undergrad the better choice (I've read that attending a university's undergraduate school improves one's chances of acceptance into its professional schools, and becoming familiar with the location is also a plus). Princeton's focus on undergraduates and its beautiful campus and local town interest me a lot, however.
I'm a still a high school junior and have time to make my decision, btw.
Of course, admissions for these schools are highly competitive, so I'm planning on applying to The College of New Jersey, too, which is a great school in its own right. If you happen to know, how's the science curriculum at TCNJ, and how successful is it in getting students to top-tier medical schools?
I interviewed a few months ago at Columbia medical, you are right to want to go there. Its one of the three schools that I would absolutely love to go to, hands down. If you want to go to columbia, that's the school for you to go to. Do summer internships, etc at the medical school. Doing research with a doctor there would be a huge advantage. Maybe I'll see you next year around

For those of you familiar with this school.
It's located in British Columbia Canada, and I was thinking maybe I can apply there, but is this the equivalent of a Junior College? Or is this a regular University?
